I was sitting in fourth period a few weeks ago, boredom ran high. All of the sudden, one of the vice-principals came through the door and said she needed to see me. She told me I needed to bring all of my belongings with me.
I went into the hall and found her with a police officer. They led me into an empty classroom and informed me that a student’s sunglasses were stolen from the computer lab earlier in the day and I was singled out by that student as someone to question. (How often do they bring in the police on these stolen sunglasses cases?) I told them I had no idea what happened to his sunglasses, and they asked if they could search my belongings. Not wanting any more trouble like that I’ve had in the past with them, I allowed them to search my belongings.
After they were done going through my backpack and coat, the officer pulled out a pipe. What was this about? Did he want to put our differences behind us with a puff of the peace pipe?
He said that it was found in the computer lab earlier in the day and wanted to know if it was mine. I told them it wasn’t mine, and he asked me over and over, all the time eyeing me like the criminal he took me for. After I reiterated it about five times, they allowed me to go back to class.
Lunch came, and I was telling a few friends what happened. I found out that the same thing happened to another student. He was pulled out of class and questioned about the glasses, then in a slight variance of the subject, the pipe was pulled out. We don’t know of anyone else who underwent this questioning, even other people who were in the computer lab at the time. What makes it even more peculiar is that the student found his glasses on the scanner the next time he went in the computer lab.
